Citizens’ Protests / Erion Braçe Sends a Message to Edi Rama: You Must Do This…

Socialist Party MP Erion Braçe has once again reacted to the ongoing protests, emphasizing that demonstrations are a legitimate democratic right but should not be confused with the role of governing a country.

According to Braçe, peaceful protest is a fundamental element of democracy and a legitimate way for citizens to express dissatisfaction. However, he stressed that the government’s responsibility is not to focus on the protests but to continue carrying out its duties and serving the public.

“Government is not there to complain about protests or be distracted by them. Government is there to govern. Govern! That is what you must do,” Braçe said, calling on Prime Minister Edi Rama to remain focused on leading the country.

Braçe warned that Albania is entering a challenging period due to high temperatures and weather-related risks. He highlighted the need for preparedness regarding wildfires, public health concerns, protection of outdoor workers, water supply management, and the growing demands of the summer tourism season.

He also noted that the government should focus on implementing the state budget more effectively, pointing out that revenues collected by the end of May exceeded expectations while spending remained below planned levels.

Additionally, Braçe called for progress on several social initiatives, including support measures for mothers of children with disabilities and improvements to assistance programs for newborn children, including the possibility of extending parental leave.

“Protesters are doing their job. The government’s job is to govern the country and provide services. Even those protesting want services, and there are many more citizens who are not protesting but still deserve them. If the government fails to do its job, there is no point in remaining in office,” Braçe concluded.
