Analyst Fatos Lubonja has commented on Prime Minister Edi Rama’s remarks directed at him earlier today during the Socialist Party parliamentary group meeting.
In an interview with News24, Lubonja stated that Rama’s attempt to portray him as a “persecutor” is weak and flawed. He said that while the Prime Minister holds all the instruments of power, he himself only possesses the power of free speech.
Lubonja emphasized that he had made it clear to Rama when he first became Mayor of Tirana that he was dangerous for politics, for the country, and even for himself.
“This accusation that tries to portray me as a persecutor like those of the past is weak and deeply flawed, because those people held power, controlled the police and the security apparatus, while we were weak and powerless. Today, the situation is the opposite. This gentleman holds power. He has the police and all the institutions.
I only have the strength and power of free speech. Therefore, comparing me to those people is weak and baseless. I have simply done my duty as an intellectual and journalist by raising important issues. I told him from the moment he became mayor that he was dangerous and should leave politics. He is dangerous for politics, for the country, and even for himself,” Lubonja said.
