After Reuters, Associated Press Also Broadcasts Tirana Protest LIVE as Albanian TV Channels Largely Ignore It

For the first time in recent memory, two of the world’s largest and most influential news agencies, Associated Press (AP) and Reuters, are simultaneously providing live coverage of the ongoing protests in Tirana, drawing unprecedented international attention to events unfolding in Albania’s capital. Reuters has been covering the demonstrations through live video feeds and reports, while Associated Press has also highlighted the growing movement and the political debate surrounding it.

The protests, which have continued for more than a week, have attracted thousands of citizens from across the country who are voicing opposition to the planned development project in the protected area of Zvërnec and the wider concerns surrounding governance, transparency, and environmental protection. International media outlets have closely followed the demonstrations as crowds continue to gather in central Tirana day after day.

The fact that both AP and Reuters are broadcasting and reporting extensively on the protests is being viewed by many observers as a significant moment for Albania, as it is rare for two global news giants to focus simultaneously on a domestic Albanian event. Their coverage has allowed audiences around the world to follow developments in real time and has placed the situation in Tirana under international scrutiny.

Meanwhile, many Albanian television stations have faced criticism from citizens and activists for providing limited live coverage of the demonstrations. Apart from a few exceptions, most major domestic broadcasters have not transmitted the protests live, creating a sharp contrast with the extensive international attention the events are receiving. This disparity has sparked debate on social media, where many users have questioned why foreign media organizations are dedicating significant resources to covering the protests while much of the local television landscape remains largely silent.

As demonstrations continue in Tirana, international media interest shows no sign of slowing down, with the Albanian protests increasingly becoming a story followed far beyond the country’s borders.
