Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has once again responded to the public debate surrounding the investment projects planned for Sazan Island and the Zvërnec area, which have faced strong criticism and sparked nationwide protests over the past 15 days.
In a post on social media, Rama stressed that no part of Albania’s territory has been put up for sale and that all procedures related to the projects are being carried out in accordance with the law.
According to the Prime Minister, Sazan Island remains the property of the Albanian state, and its sale has never been considered. He explained that the proposed tourism development model envisions state participation in the investment, while negotiations with investors are still ongoing and no final agreement has yet been reached.
“No square meter of Albania has been put up for sale, no one has made deals behind the people’s backs, and the Republic of Albania has been represented with unquestionable dignity in a negotiation process that is still not concluded,” Rama wrote on Facebook.
Regarding the Zvërnec project, Rama stated that the land designated for the investment is privately owned and has been officially registered in the cadastral system for years. He noted that its acquisition was carried out through agreements between investors and the legal owners.
The Prime Minister also emphasized that disputes involving individuals claiming ownership of the land are currently being handled by the courts and are unrelated to the government.
“The entire chain of facts in this story clearly shows that Albania is not a country without ownership or control; Albanian institutions operate with integrity, professionalism, and without any inferiority complex toward foreign investors; and the Albanian government leads the country with vision and dignity,” Rama added.
