The Socialist Party is celebrating its 35th anniversary today at 5:30 PM in Italy Square, Tirana.
According to sources cited by A2 CNN, party members will remain standing throughout the event, while the only speech is expected to be delivered by Prime Minister and Socialist Party leader Edi Rama.
The celebration is also expected to feature the screening of several video presentations, with no other speeches planned during the program.
Due to heightened security measures, media representatives have not been allowed to enter the restricted area where the event is taking place. In addition, cafés and businesses located on the Air Albania Stadium side have reportedly remained closed during the gathering.
The 35th anniversary finds the Socialist Party serving its fourth consecutive term in government. This year’s celebration comes under unusual circumstances, as it coincides with ongoing mass protests calling for Prime Minister Edi Rama’s resignation.
