BEHIND THE SCENES / Berisha’s “Non Grata” Status Reportedly Lifted, Senior U.S. Official Personally Called Him

A significant political development that has been circulating for weeks within the Democratic Party appears to be taking official shape.

Sources close to the Democratic Party headquarters, as well as journalist Çim Peka, have confirmed that former Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha has reportedly had his “non grata” designation lifted by the United States Department of State.

According to the information obtained, an official statement from the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Embassy in Tirana is expected in the coming hours to clarify and confirm the decision.

It is also reported that Nancy VanHorn, the U.S. representative in Albania, personally called the leader of Albania’s opposition to inform him of the decision made by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to remove the sanctions against him.

The two reportedly spoke for around 15 minutes, during which Berisha was informed that, effective immediately, he is free to enter the United States and that the “non grata” designation no longer applies to him.
