Thousands of citizens gathered once again today in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, marking the 13th consecutive day of demonstrations.
The protest has seen a significant increase in participation in recent days.
Members of the Albanian diaspora have also joined the movement. Hundreds of Albanians living abroad have held solidarity protests in cities including Milan, Florence, Bologna, Genoa, Brussels, London, and Berlin.
Holding banners and Albanian flags, protesters called for change, bringing together students, young people, pensioners, children, professionals, emigrants, tourists, and activists.
Under chants of “Revolution” and “More Tomorrow,” demonstrators declared that they would continue their protests until Prime Minister Edi Rama resigns.
They also announced a major gathering on June 13 and called on members of the Albanian diaspora to join the movement.
Throughout the demonstration, protesters chanted slogans including “Rama to Jail, Berisha to Jail,” “Rama Go Away,” “The Homeland Is Not for Sale,” “New Albania,” “Your Time Is Up,” and “Albania Belongs to Us.”
Before the speeches began, participants observed a one-minute silence in honor of the fallen heroes of the Kosovo War.
A representative of the protest’s coordinating group called for a boycott of what she described as “sold-out media outlets,” while expressing appreciation for journalists present at the protest.
“They are part of us,” she said.
She also argued that many public administration employees who attended Prime Minister Rama’s event did not genuinely support the government but felt pressured to participate, urging them to join the protests instead.
Another speaker raised concerns about what he described as a corrupt justice system. According to him, Albania’s Special Anti-Corruption Structure (SPAK) has the full support of Albanian citizens to investigate politicians accused of misusing public funds and stealing taxpayers’ money.
Following the speeches, protesters began marching through the streets of the capital while chanting “Rama to Jail, Berisha to Jail.”
