Edi Rama, Resign! The Albanian People Surpassed Themselves

A protest that exceeded all expectations, historic in scale, and unlike anything seen before.

Thousands upon thousands of citizens filled the main boulevard today, responding on the 11th day of protests to Prime Minister Edi Rama and his remarks about 500,000 people gathering in the square.

From 6:00 PM onwards, demonstrators packed the boulevard, delivering speeches against the government and the political establishment while calling for a new Albania.

Protesters demanded political change, greater accountability, and a different vision for the country’s future, turning the gathering into one of the most significant demonstrations seen in recent years.

Protest Organizers Challenge Rama: “Open the Cameras and See How Many We Are”

One of the protest organizers stated that Prime Minister Edi Rama had previously declared that he would not resign even if 500,000 people gathered in protest. The activist challenged him to look at the crowds filling the streets.

“Rama said that even if there were 500,000 people, he would not resign. Open the cameras and see how many of us are here today,” he said.

As the traditional march along the boulevard began, organizers also urged participants to remain united, avoid division, and demonstrate civic responsibility. Protesters were heard chanting:

“Do not be provoked” and “Edi Rama, resign.”

Participants also raised concerns about alleged threats and intimidation. Expert Gent Progni claimed that employees of the OSHEE administration had been threatened with dismissal from their jobs.

The protest continued with calls for unity, democratic participation, and political accountability as demonstrators marched through the capital.
